In 2002, Nova Southeastern University made the transition into Division II athletics. They finished their provisional membership in 2005, and are now eligible to compete for championships. In only four short years the school has worked hard on recruiting and has brought most of the programs to the level of the Sunshine State Conference. In 2006-2007, they built the new state-of-the-art University Center, which most notably holds the Shark Tank, this is a multipurpose arena, but most commonly seen as a basketball arena. The structure holds 5,500 fans and is the key to the athletic program.
The Sharks were originally called the Knights, which was from 1982 until 2004. In 2005, they unveiled the new Sharks logo and athletic mascot. The nickname was selected by the students of Nova Southeastern University. The university has also made a stride, to put as many student-athletes on the field as possible. Since 2002, they have added at least one sport to the athletic program. They currently sponsor all but one sport that the Sunshine State Conference offers, and they also sponsor two more sports that the conference does not affiliate with.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

—Aristotle (384323 B.C.)
“America is the only nation in history which, miraculously, has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization.”
—Attributed to Georges Clemenceau (18411929)
“Boys forget what their country means by just reading the land of the free in history books. Then they get to be men, they forget even more. Libertys too precious a thing to be buried in books.”
—Sidney Buchman (19021975)
