Generalized Advertising Agencies
Creative agencies specialize in "creative" or design-based business models: their basic interest is in the creation of the advertisement or branding. Other ("full-service") agencies offer design in conjunction with media buying. Media agencies concentrate on media buying. (In the 1990s, media and creative were often unbundled in the interests of economies of scale in buying media.)
The client who chooses to use a design only based advertising agency must assume some of the advertising purchasing. These are activities that are routinely handled by an agency with a media buying option. Media buying agencies are sometimes a good choice for larger businesses. These agencies can assume greater responsibility for the strategic planning and function of an advertising campaign. The advantage to a design only-based agency is there is no third-party ordering the service. In turn, cost can be lower and is sometimes a good alternative for smaller businesses.

Famous quotes containing the words generalized, advertising and/or agencies:
“One is conscious of no brave and noble earnestness in it, of no generalized passion for intellectual and spiritual adventure, of no organized determination to think things out. What is there is a highly self-conscious and insipid correctness, a bloodless respectability submergence of matter in mannerin brief, what is there is the feeble, uninspiring quality of German painting and English music.”
—H.L. (Henry Lewis)
“Now wait a minute. You listen to me. Im an advertising man, not a red herring. Ive got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex- wives, and several bartenders dependent on me. And I dont intend to disappoint them all by getting myself slightly killed.”
—Ernest Lehman (b.1920)
“While it is generally agreed that the visible expressions and agencies are necessary instruments, civilization seems to depend far more fundamentally upon the moral and intellectual qualities of human beingsupon the spirit that animates mankind.”
—Mary Ritter Beard (18761958)
