Lower Level Football Leagues In Interwar Poland

In interbellum Poland, there was not a national, Second Division, as we know it today (although it was proposed on several occasions). For example, on Sunday, September 26, 1937 in Częstochowa, a conference of A-Class teams took place, during which the possibility of creation of the Second League was discussed. Officials of several clubs arrived, such as Brygada Częstochowa, Gryf Toruń, Śmigły Wilno, Rewera Stanisławów, Dąb Katowice, Unia Sosnowiec, Strzelec Janowa Dolina, and WKS Grodno. Also, invited were officials from HCP Poznań, Podgorze Kraków, Naprzód Lipiny and Union Touring Łódź. The representatives talked about creation of a National "B-League", however, subsequently nothing came out of this project.

Instead, in the years 1921-1939, several Voivodeships held their own games and those leagues were known as "A-Classes". Then, in 1927, the elite Polish Football League was created, and in late 1930s it consisted of 10 teams. The teams that did not make it to the League, participated in A-Classes, which were second tier of the Polish football.

In this dream that dogs me I am part
Of a silent crowd walking under a wall,
Leaving a football match, perhaps, or a pit,
    All moving the same way.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

Good news about someone never gets past the door, but bad news will travel a thousand leagues away.

It is often said that Poland is a country where there is anti-semitism and no Jews, which is pathology in its purest state.
