Kaya Sultan - Early Life

Early Life

Kaya Sultan was born to Sultan Murad IV, the most heroic and most autocratic of the seventeenth century. The marriage of princesses for political ends has always been used by the Sultans and Kaya Sultan was no exception. At the age of thirteen, Kaya was married to Melek Ahmet Pasha, a former Ottoman Grand Vizier of Abkhazian origin, who was in his mid 50s. However, Kaya was extremely hostile towards her husband, as evident on her wedding night when she struck him with a dagger.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

For the writer, there is nothing quite like having someone say that he or she understands, that you have reached them and affected them with what you have written. It is the feeling early humans must have experienced when the firelight first overcame the darkness of the cave. It is the communal cooking pot, the Street, all over again. It is our need to know we are not alone.
    Virginia Hamilton (b. 1936)

I sometimes have the sense that I live my life as a writer with my nose pressed against the wide, shiny plate glass window of the “mainstream” culture. The world seems full of straight, large-circulation, slick periodicals which wouldn’t think of reviewing my book and bookstores which will never order it.
    Jan Clausen (b. 1943)
