Federation of Zionist Youth

Federation Of Zionist Youth

The Federation of Zionist Youth (FZY) is a Zionist Jewish youth movement. Founded in 1910, it is the oldest and has grown to become the largest Zionist youth movement in the United Kingdom. It is affiliated with Young Judaea in the USA and the Hebrew Scouts movement in Israel. It runs weekly activities and camps for hundreds of Jewish youth, as well as bringing many members on programmes to Israel for a summer tour at age 16, or a year-long programme at the completion of high school.

FZY's Leadership is chosen through a mixed process of voting and selection by interview, making it a fair and democratic process.

FZY distinguishes itself from other British Zionists youth movements in its Zionist and Judaic pluralism. Ideologically it stands on four pillars of:

  • tarbut (תרבות) - Jewish culture;
  • tzedaka (צדקה) - values of charity and righteousness;
  • magen (מגן) - defense of Jewish rights;
  • aliyah nimshechet (עליה) - moving to Israel and continuing to do good for the state

Famous quotes containing the words federation of, federation and/or youth:

    Women realize that we are living in an ungoverned world. At heart we are all pacifists. We should love to talk it over with the war-makers, but they would not understand. Words are so inadequate, and we realize that the hatred must kill itself; so we give our men gladly, unselfishly, proudly, patriotically, since the world chooses to settle its disputes in the old barbarous way.

    Where youth and diffidence are united, it requires uncommon steadiness of reason to resist the attraction of being called the most charming girl in the world.
    Jane Austen (1775–1817)
