The ages of consent for sexual activity vary by jurisdiction across Europe. Vatican State (age 12) has the lowest age of consent, while Malta and Turkey are at the highest end (both age 18). The laws can also stipulate the specific activities that are permitted and/or differentially specify the age at which a given sex can participate. The self-declared state of the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' is the only jurisdiction in Europe that still has a sodomy law that bans anal sex. Other variables may exist, for close-in-age exceptions, for defences in Greece (applicable to heterosexual and lesbian sexual conduct only, not for gay male sexual conduct), however the age of consent in Greece is mostly 15 for all, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender (as shown below in more detail).
