Lewis sought to "infuse queerness" into the film as much as he could, so he cast a number of non-heterosexual actors and used music by a number of queer punk bands. Critical response to Luster was deeply divided.

Famous quotes containing the word luster:

What is it to grow old?
Is it to lose the glory of the form,
    The luster of the eye?
Is it for beauty to forego her wreath?
    MYes, but not this alone.
    Matthew Arnold (1822–1888)
