Jazzwise Education

Jazzwise Education has run the Jazzwise Summer School nearly every year since 1984. The course was originally located at Goldsmiths' College, but moved to Richmond in 1995. The Director of the Jazzwise Summer School is the noted US jazz educator Jamey Aebersold, and the teaching faculty includes around twenty prominent US and UK jazz educators. Over 1,500 students have attended the Jazzwise Summer Schools since 1984. These include amateur and professional musicians from the UK and around the world, who play typical jazz instruments such as trumpet, saxophone, trombone, piano, guitar, double bass and drums. The aim of the course is to assist participants to develop their skills as jazz players and, in particular, in jazz improvisation. Students receive instrumental tuition and instruction in harmony and ear training and play for several hours each day in jazz bands ('combos') under tutor guidance.

After a break during 2009 and 2010, the Jazzwise Summer School is planned to recommence in 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word education:

There comes a time in every man’s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better for worse as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given him to till.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
