Calling a taxi in Texas is like calling a rabbi in Iraq.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)

During the cattle drives, Texas cowboy music came into national significance. In this music of the range and trail is “the grayness of the prairies, the mournful minor note of a Texas norther, and a rhythm that fits the gait of the cowboy’s pony.”
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

The pleasure of jogging and running is rather like that of wearing a fur coat in Texas in August: the true joy comes in being able to take the damn thing off.
    Joseph Epstein (b. 1937)
