Famous quotes containing the words quince, tree and/or press:

Let the palings of her bed
    Be quince and box-wood overlaid
with the scented bark of yew.
That all the wood in blossoming,
May calm her heart and cool her blood
    For losing of her maidenhood.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

The press and politicians. A delicate relationship. Too close, and danger ensues. Too far apart and democracy itself cannot function without the essential exchange of information. Creative leaks, a discreet lunch, interchange in the Lobby, the art of the unattributable telephone call, late at night.
    Howard Brenton (b. 1942)
