The Oratory School - Music

Music

The School has a particularly strong orchestral and choral tradition, with former choristers of Westminster Cathedral among the pupils. The school choir, known as 'Schola Cantorium', has over 60 pupils, and around half the pupils across the School play a musical instrument or attend singing lessons. Several pupils have recently joined the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

Famous quotes containing the word music:

I think sometimes, could I only have music on my own terms; could I live in a great city and know where I could go whenever I wished the ablution and inundation of musical waves,—that were a bath and a medicine.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

As I define it, rock & roll is dead. The attitude isn’t dead, but the music is no longer vital. It doesn’t have the same meaning. The attitude, though, is still very much alive—and it still informs other kinds of music.
    David Byrne (b. 1952)

Hell is full of musical amateurs: music is the brandy of the damned.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
