The Pennsylvania Farm Show is held every single January at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, just off Exit 67 of Interstate 81. The event, considered Pennsylvania's state fair, first began in 1917. It is the largest indoor agricultural event held in the United States. The Farm Show Complex houses 24 acres (97,000 m2) under roof, spread throughout 11 buildings including three arenas. The annual event is free to the public and attracts over half a million visitors. The Sheep to Shawl Competition was added to the show in 2008. Many of the vendors, farmers, and animals come from the surrounding townships, boroughs, and municipalities such as East Hanover, South Hanover, West Hanover, Hummelstown, Grantville, Derry Township, Londonderry Township, and the Palmyra-Campbelltown area.

Famous quotes containing the words pennsylvania, farm and/or show:
“The discovery of Pennsylvanias coal and iron was the deathblow to Allaire. The works were moved to Pennsylvania so hurriedly that for years pianos and the larger pieces of furniture stood in the deserted houses.”
—For the State of New Jersey, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“I respect not his labors, his farm where everything has its price, who would carry the landscape, who would carry his God, to market, if he could get anything for him; who goes to market for his god as it is; on whose farm nothing grows free, whose fields bear no crops, whose meadows no flowers, whose trees no fruit, but dollars; who loves not the beauty of his fruits, whose fruits are not ripe for him till they are turned to dollars. Give me the poverty that enjoys true wealth.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“There are so bewilderingly many laws in the Outside World. We of the circus know only one lawsimple and unfailing. The Show must go on.”
—Josephine Demott Robinson (18651948)
