Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second biggest city in Spain and sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union, still remains a city without many tall structures, partly due to the protected status of most of its central area — Eixample.

As for the number of skyscrapers above 100 m (328 ft), Barcelona has a 4th place in the European Union. When it comes to use it most skyscrapers is the office buildings and hotels.
