Hung Hom Peninsula Housing Estate
While Leung was Director of Housing, the government sold a disused but never previously occupied Private Sector Participation Scheme project. The Hung Hom Peninsula project was sold for a below-market land premium of HK$864 million to New World Development (NWD), who subsequently sold off half share to Sun Hung Kai. In 2004, the consortium announced the demolition of these buildings to make way for luxury apartments. Famous quotes containing the words hung, housing and/or estate:
“Christianity only hopes. It has hung its harp on the willows, and cannot sing a song in a strange land. It has dreamed a sad dream, and does not yet welcome the morning with joy. The mother tells her falsehoods to her child, but, thank heaven, the child does not grow up in its parents shadow. Our mothers faith has not grown with her experience. Her experience has been too much for her. The lesson of life was too hard for her to learn.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“We have been weakened in our resistance to the professional anti-Communists because we know in our hearts that our so-called democracy has excluded millions of citizens from a normal life and the normal American privileges of health, housing and education.”
—Agnes E. Meyer (18871970)
“I gin to be aweary of the sun,
And wish th estate o the world were now undone.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
