Lang Island

Lang Island (Dutch: "Long"; modern Indonesian: Rakata Kecil or Panjang) lies in the Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra, in Indonesia. It is one of the Krakatoa Islands, near the famous volcano. Lang suffered only slightly in the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa; it actually grew in area from massive pumice fall, although most of the additional area washed away within several years.

The island is quite hilly.

Famous quotes containing the words lang and/or island:

    Should auld acquaintance be forgot
    And never brought to mind?
    ...
    We’ll tak a cup o’kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.
    Robert Burns (1759–1796)

    Beyond this island bound
By a thin sea of flesh
    And a bone coast ...
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)
