Handwriting Recognition - Research

Research

Handwriting Recognition has an active community of academics studying it. The biggest conferences for handwriting recognition are the International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR), held in even-numbered years, and the International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR), held in odd-numbered years. Both of these conferences are endorsed by the IEEE. Active areas of research include:

  • Online Recognition
  • Offline Recognition
  • Signature Verification
  • Postal-Address Interpretation
  • Bank-Check Processing
  • Writer Recognition

A survey of research on handwriting recognition is by R. Plamondon and S. N. Srihari.

Famous quotes containing the word research:

If politics is the art of the possible, research is surely the art of the soluble. Both are immensely practical-minded affairs.
    Peter B. Medawar (1915–1987)

The great question that has never been answered, and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is “What does a woman want?”
    Sigmund Freud (1856–1939)

The research on gender and morality shows that women and men looked at the world through very different moral frameworks. Given these basic differences, why would men and women suddenly agree about disciplining children?
    Ron Taffel (20th century)
