Bandar Bin Sultan - Secretary-General of National Security Council

Secretary-General of National Security Council

Bandar bin Sultan was appointed Secretary-General of the National Security Council by King Abdullah on 16 October 2005. His term was extended for four years on 3 September 2009.

Bandar secretly met with U.S. officials in 2006 after resigning as ambassador. In other words, in his new post, he is reported to continue to meet privately with them, for instance, senior White House officials made several visits to Saudi Arabia, some of them not disclosed.

On 25 January 2007, Saudi Arabia sent Bandar to Iran for discussions on the crisis in Lebanon and the Kingdom even held talks with Hizballah leaders it had invited for the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

Famous quotes containing the words national, security and/or council:

If the national security is involved, anything goes. There are no rules. There are people so lacking in roots about what is proper and what is improper that they don’t know there’s anything wrong in breaking into the headquarters of the opposition party.
    Helen Gahagan Douglas (1900–1980)

Those words freedom and opportunity do not mean a license to climb upwards by pushing other people down. Any paternalistic system that tries to provide for security for everyone from above only calls for an impossible task and a regimentation utterly uncongenial to the spirit of our people.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)

Daughter to that good Earl, once President
Of England’s Council and her Treasury,
Who lived in both, unstain’d with gold or fee,
And left them both, more in himself content.

Till the sad breaking of that Parliament
Broke him, as that dishonest victory
    At Chaeronea, fatal to liberty,
Kill’d with report that old man eloquent;—
    John Milton (1608–1674)
