Cultural Impact

In 2010, the Labour Party used an edited image of Gene Hunt on the Quattro with David Cameron's face as part of its general election campaign with the words "Don’t let him take Britain back to the 1980s" – comparing his policies to those of Margaret Thatcher, whose economic policy in the early 1980s saw substantial spending cuts and a sharp rise in unemployment.

In response to this, the Conservatives copied the image with the words "Fire up the Quattro. It's time for Change. Vote for Change. Vote Conservative." Subsequently Kudos Productions, which owns the copyright to the Gene Hunt character, wrote to both parties requiring them to cease using the image.

Famous quotes containing the words cultural and/or impact:

The personal appropriation of clichés is a condition for the spread of cultural tourism.
    Serge Daney (1944–1992)

Too many existing classrooms for young children have this overriding goal: To get the children ready for first grade. This goal is unworthy. It is hurtful. This goal has had the most distorting impact on five-year-olds. It causes kindergartens to be merely the handmaidens of first grade.... Kindergarten teachers cannot look at their own children and plan for their present needs as five-year-olds.
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)
