Alpine Skiing at The 1988 Winter Olympics

Alpine skiing at the 1988 Winter Olympics consisted of ten events, held near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The ten events were held at the Nakiska ski area in Kananaskis from February 15-27, 1988.

The Super G made its Olympic debut and the combined event was re-introduced after four decades; it was last held as a medal event in 1948.

Famous quotes containing the words alpine and/or winter:

The shades of night were falling fast,
As through an Alpine village passed
A youth, who bore, ‘mid snow and ice,
A banner with the strange device,
    Excelsior!
    Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1809–1882)

There was never a revolution to equal it, and never a city more glorious than Petrograd, and for all that period of my life I lived another and braved the ice of winter and the summer flies in Vyborg while across my adopted country of the past, winds of the revolution blew their flame, and all of us suffered hunger while we drank at the wine of equality.
    Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
