2004 French Open – Women's Singles
Justine Henin-Hardenne was the defending champion, but she was stunned in the second round by Tathiana Garbin. This was Henin-Hardenne's only loss at the French Open from 2003 until 2010.
Anastasia Myskina defeated Elena Dementieva to win the tournament, despite previously having never passed the second round. She became the first Russian woman to win a Grand Slam.
