Hindu

Hindu ( pronunciation) is a term for adherents of Indian religions. Hinduism comprises diverse traditions and has no single founder. It includes the Agamic religion, involving Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism; historic groups such as the Ganapatyas, Kaumaras, Sauras, Bhairavas, Kapalikas, Kalamukhas, Pashupatas; and the historical Vedic religion, including the Śrautas.

After India became an independent country, the term "Hindu" came to describe persons professing any Indian religion, e.g., Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism.

With more than a billion adherents, Hinduism is the world's third largest religion. The vast majority of Hindus, approximately 940 million, live in India. Other countries with large Hindu populations include Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Fiji and Bali.
