Valves With A Single Degree of Freedom

Usually the aortic and mitral valves are incorporated in valve studies within a single degree of freedom. These relationships are based on the idea of the valve being a structure with a single degree of freedom. These relationships are based upon the Euler equations.

Equations for the aortic valve in this case:

where:

u=axial velocity

p=pressure

A=cross sectional area of valve

L=axial length of valve

(t)=single degree of freedom; when

Famous quotes containing the words single, degree and/or freedom:

    I don’t like your miserable lonely single “front name.” It is so limited, so meagre; it has no versatility; it is weighted down with the sense of responsibility; it is worn threadbare with much use; it is as bad as having only one jacket and one hat; it is like having only one relation, one blood relation, in the world. Never set a child afloat on the flat sea of life with only one sail to catch the wind.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

    There is always a degree of ridicule that attends a disappointment, though often very unjustly, if the expectation was reasonably grounded; however, it is certainly most prudent not to communicate, prematurely, one’s hopes or one’s fears.
    Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

    The question is whether personal freedom is worth the terrible effort, the never-lifted burden and risks of self-reliance.
    Rose Wilder Lane (1886–1968)
