The 1982 shooting occurred on April 7, 1982. The gunman, 14-year-old Jason Rocha, was a student at Deer Creek Middle School. Rocha shot and killed 13 year-old Scott Darwin Michael.
Rocha was charged as an adult and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He served his time in a CAT (Closed Adolescent Treatment) facility in Lakewood, Colorado. The CAT program was the subject of some media scrutiny, with Rocha and other "All-American Boys" involved in such violent crimes.
