Origin
Several historical descriptions of the Chitpavans describe their distinct physical features such as fair skin and light-brown or greenish-brown eyes, which set them apart from the other natives of Konkan and Maharashtrian Brahmins. Mostly they have light eyes (but not light hair) suggesting inter-marriage of their Satavahanas ancestors with the Saka-Kushans who briefly ruled parts of northwest India. The Konkan region has been inhabited by several immigrant groups including the Parsis, the Bene Israelis, the Kudaldeshkar Gaud Brahmins, and the Konkani Saraswat Brahmins, and the Chitpavan Brahmins were apparently the last of these immigrant arrivals.
