Muzzle Energy

Muzzle energy is the kinetic energy of a bullet as it is expelled from the muzzle of a firearm. It is often used as a rough indication of the destructive potential of a given firearm or load. The heavier the bullet and the faster it moves, the higher its muzzle energy and the more damage it will do.

The general formula for the kinetic energy is

where

v is the velocity of the bullet
m is the mass of the bullet.

Famous quotes containing the words muzzle and/or energy:

As well have a talon as a finger, a muzzle as a mouth,
as well have a hollow as a heart.
    Robert Earl Hayden (1913–1980)

The very presence of guilt, let alone its tenacity, implies imbalance: Something, we suspect, is getting more of our energy than warrants, at the expense of something else, we suspect, that deserves more of our energy than we’re giving.
    Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
