Minor Suit
In contract bridge the minor suits are diamonds (♦) and clubs (♣). They are given that name because contracts made in those suits score less (20 per contracted trick) than contracts made in the major suits (30 per contracted trick), and they rank lower in bidding. In particular, one can make game with a bid of 4 in a major suit, while a bid of 5 is required in a minor. Of the two minor suits, diamonds (♦) rank higher than clubs (♣)

Famous quotes containing the words minor and/or suit:
“To minor authors is left the ornamentation of the commonplace: these do not bother about any reinventing of the world; they merely try to squeeze the best they can out of a given order of things, out of traditional patterns of fiction.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
“Calm is the morn without a sound,
Calm as to suit a calmer grief,
And only through the faded leaf
The chestnut pattering to the ground:”
—Alfred Tennyson (18091892)
