Possible Health Effects
Passive scanners do not emit radiation. Active scanners emit millimeter wavelength radiation which is non-ionizing—i.e., it does not have enough energy to directly damage DNA—and is not known to be genotoxic.
While the majority of animal cancer studies show no response to chronic exposure to microwave radiation, some show an increased rate of tumor growth. The same increase also occurs in chronically-stressed animals not exposed to radiation. Other studies have found that exposure to millimeter wave radiation reduced metastasis of tumor cells.

Famous quotes containing the words health and/or effects:
“I hold it that a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.... It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“Upon the whole, necessity is something, that exists in the mind, not in objects; nor is it possible for us ever to form the most distant idea of it, considerd as a quality in bodies. Either we have no idea of necessity, or necessity is nothing but that determination of thought to pass from cause to effects and effects to causes, according to their experiencd union.”
—David Hume (17111776)
