The "Type" entries are meant to suggest the main subject or subjects the museum covers, with words immediately after hyphens indicating either the museum's focus within that subject or a related subject. "History - Local", for instance, indicates a museum focuses on local history. A slash mark ("/") indicates a largely unrelated subject also covered by the museum. The Type column describes only the major 1–3 topics covered by the museum. Web links in the Summary section are identified as "Website" for a link to the institution's official website; "Web page" for a link to an official Web page (usually when the website covers a larger organization that encompasses the museum), or, if neither are available, "Information" for an unofficial web page.
