Kopar Khairane is a node of the city of Navi Mumbai. It was built mostly on reclaimed land by CIDCO.
Kopar Khairane railway station is located in Sector 8A of the node. On the Thane-Belapur Road side of the station is located the enormous Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City (DAKC), the headquarters of Reliance Communications - the largest CDMA telecom operator in India. Also located closely is Millennium Business Park (MBP) which houses software consulting companies such as Allied Digital, Patni Computer Systems, Mastek Ltd, L&T Infotech, L&T Control & Automation Unit, 3Di Systems, Hexaware Technologies Ltd., Object Edge India etc. It also has huge residential towers such as Balaji Gardens and FAM Society Ltd.
Koparkhairane Vikhroli Link Bridge There is an upcoming demand for a new bridge over the Thane creek from Kopar Khairane to Kannamwar Nagar in Vikroli, Mumbai off the eastern express highway so as to connect the eastern suburbs of Mumbai. This will establish a much desired third bridge linking Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The six-lane bridge will start where the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) meets Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and end near Koparkhairane on Palm Beach Road. The portion of the bridge above the creek will be 2.33-km long. Its connectors to Ghatkopar and Koparkhairane will measure 4.15 km.For Kalyan, one can take Shil Phata Road via Mahape. At present, Pune- or Goa-bound vehicles from Mumbai take either the Airoli or Vashi bridge on the Sion-Panvel highway, the traffic load of which will come down once the new bridge is ready. In all, 2 lakh vehicles will be diverted from the EEH and the Sion-Panvel highway to the bridge (which will be the sixth on the creek-the others being Kashedi, Bhiwandi, Kalwa, Airoli and Vashi). The only hurdle is environmental clearance as the bridge will come up on 29 hectares of mangroves and forestland. Another concern is if it will severely impact toll collection on the Vashi and Airoli bridges by diverting to itself a substantial number of vehicles. The cost of construction has been estimated by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to be Rs 535 crore.
The Bridge can be constructed in three years once all permissions are obtained. Proposal has been forwarded to MMRDA for funding and PWD and MMRDA re jointly seeking environmental clearance. The tendering process will take about six months. The bridge will be constructed with private participation. The developer will be allowed to recover costs and earn profit over 23 years through toll.
As in the rest of Navi Mumbai, the real estate prices in Kopar Khairane have skyrocketed. One factor that has ostensibly led to this is the presence of many big Corporate offices in the vicinity like Reliance Corporate Park, Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City, L&T and many more in the MIDC area of Mahape.
The current rates as on 1 Sept 2011 range between Rs.7000 to 8000 per square feet for residential properties. Sector 11 is the costliest sector of Kopar Khairane. This sector has three major residential societies (viz. FAM, Balaji & Kalash Udyan). This node is a centre place for the Thane-Vashi, Thane-Dadar and Vashi-Kurla railway lines. Sector 20 in Koparkhairane is fast becoming popular with many high rises such as Trishul Towers, Satyam Towers, Satyam Height, Giriraj Oscar projects getting completed and occupied. With Hotels such as Zaika Restuarent, Varishta and multi speciality hosipital Saisnehdeep the cost of property in this sector has risen upward of RS. 8500 per square feet.
There are several new eateries that have opened up there including Star Cafe, Varishta, Pancha Ratna and Food Junction, Arabian kitchen.
