Jun Kwang-Woo (Hangul: 전광우; born May 7, 1949) is currently Chairman and Chief Executive of National Pension Service (NPS) of South Korea, the 5,000-member public organization as well as the KW400 trillion (US$370 billion) fund, which is recognized as among the world's top 4 pension funds in terms of total assets.
In 2008-2009, Dr. Jun served as founding Chairman of Financial Services Commission (FSC), the cabinet post in charge of financial policy and supervision, and played a pivotal role in coping with the global financial crisis erupted in 2008. He was also elected Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions, the first time for a Korean top regulator.
From 2004 till 2008, Dr. Jun was Chairman of Deloitte Korea, while concurrently serving as South Korea's Ambassador for International Finance and the Board Chairman of POSCO, a global steel group. From 2001 to 2004, he was Vice Chairman of Woori Financial Group, South Korea's first and largest financial holding company, following his presidency at the Korea Center for International Finance.
After serving as a finance professor at Michigan State University, Jun worked for the World Bank for more than 12 years in various capacities. At the height of the Asian financial crisis in 1998, he returned to South Korea as Special Advisor to Deputy Prime Minister.
He received his BA in economics from Seoul National University, and MBA and Ph. D in finance from Indiana University. He has completed the Executive Program at Harvard Business School and the AMP from the Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania.
