Islamia College is the oldest educational institution located in the city of Warangal, India. It has given birth to several other educational institutions, such as L.B. College, Pothana College and Kaktiya Degree College that were originally started on its campus.
Islamia College was founded by Hazrat Syed Mohammed Hussaini Haji Saheb in 1889. Since then, many towering personalities of Warangal have been associated with this prestigious educational institution. Mr Jeevan Yar Jung was the first president of the institute. Former MLA Mr Mirza Shukur Baig, advocate and a well known religious poet, also served this institution as secretary long back. Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin Khaiser Advocate and Mr Syed Ahmed Hussain Sub Judge have served as president and secretary respectively of this prestigious educational institution and then after that towering personality of Warangal Mr Mohammed Abdul Khader Advocate took over the reins of management and has been attached to this institution for the past 50 years. Under the chairmanship of Mohammed Abdul Khader Advocate and other board members such as Mr Sayeeduddin and Mr Habeebuddin Haji, the institution has progressively developed into one of the leading institutions of education. A management college is expected to start functioning soon.
M.A. Rasheed Nawazi had contributed tremendously to the growth of this educational institution by serving in various capacities for more than thirty years. He worked as a headmaster of Islamia School and principal of the Degree and Junior College and he was a great Islamic scholar and very famous personality of Warangal district.
Since 1987, the famous writer Dr Mohd Bahadur Ali has worked as principal of the college. He dedicated himself for education. In the year 2006, the famous poet Dr Azeez Ahmed Ursi took charge as principal. Dr. Anees Siddiqui served as vice principal for few years.
Islamia Junior College is a separate unit that runs under the leadership of Dr Mohd Ateequddin. The former Junior College principal was Mr Mahboob Ahmed Mahmoodi. Mr. M A Sultan Mahmoodi belongs to founders family. Mr. Pathan Chand Pasha holds the post of secretary of Degree college. The college has a great secular character. Former Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University, Prof. T. Vasudev was a student of this institution. Recently the management of the college started Islamia Public School. The college has a unique feature. It is the only college in Andhra Pradesh running three faculties in only Urdu Medium. This college is recognized by Government, Kakatiya University and the University Grants Commission of India. The college is getting full aid from Government of Andhra Pradesh and UGC. Few years back the college celebrated its centenary. Honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy blessed the occasion as the chief guest.
