Irina Tchachina - Retirement


After the Olympic season, Irina experienced her recurring ankle injury, she was no longer in top form competing in International events, she only won the bronze medal in All-around at the 2005 World Championships. She retired from Rhythmic Gymnastics in early 2006.

After her retirement, Irina had had a good career, She was invited to the project "Dances on Ice" on Russian Reality TV, with Ice Dancer Olympic Bronze medalist Ruslan Goncharov. She also appeared on the project "Circus with stars" along with other athletes like Svetlana Khorkina. Irina then starred as the lead heroine in the Russian film The Way with Artem Mikhalkov. Irina also wrote an autobiography called Irina Tchachina: Being Yourself. she has been quoted as saying about her sport as :" Besides your body, you should train your mind too. Intelligence is crucial to rhythmic gymnastics." In late of 2011, Irina married Russian businessman Evgeny Arkhipov.

On December 4, 2012 at the conference of the Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics in Novogorsk, Tchachina was elected Vice-President of The Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (RRGF) along with 2008 and 2012 Olympic Champion Yevgeniya Kanayeva. Tchachina was recommended by Irina Viner for the position of President of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (RRGF) but she refused.
