The history of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict has its roots in the late 19th century, turned violent in 1920 and continues to the present day. The end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century are marked by the birth of two major nationalist movements among the Jews and among the Arabs, both geared towards attaining sovereignty for their people in the Middle East. The collision between those two forces in the southern Levant, is the essence of Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is a part of the larger Arab-Israeli conflict.
