Famous quotes containing the words north, high and/or school:
“The compulsion to do good is an innate American trait. Only North Americans seem to believe that they always should, may, and actually can choose somebody with whom to share their blessings. Ultimately this attitude leads to bombing people into the acceptance of gifts.”
—Ivan Illich (b. 1926)
“They talk about their Pilgrim blood,
Their birthright high and holy!
A mountain-stream that ends in mud
Methinks is melancholy.”
—James Russell Lowell (18191891)
“Neither can I do anything to please critics belonging to the good old school of projected biography, who examine an authors work, which they do not understand, through the prism of his life, which they do not know.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
