Greater Perth is a term used in urban planning to describe the larger regions surrounding and including the city and metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia.
It consists of areas defined by the Metropolitan Region Scheme, the Peel Region Scheme, the Greater Bunbury Region Scheme as well as the Avon Arc sub-region. Peel Region Scheme comprises the City of Mandurah and the Shires of Murray and Waroona. The Greater Bunbury Region Scheme comprises the City of Bunbury and the Shires of Harvey, Dardanup and Capel. Avon Arc includes the Shires of Beverley, Brookton, Chittering, Northam, Toodyay and York, as well as the Shire of Gingin east of the Brand Highway.
The population of Greater Perth is projected to increase from 1.55 million in 2001 to 2.39 million in 2030. This increase represents 82 per cent of the total population increase for Western Australia.
