Famous quotes containing the words chronic, pain and/or syndrome:
“Adder-faced singularity
Espouses a nailed-up childhood,
Skin-disease pardons
Soft horror of living,
A gabble is forgiven
By chronic solitude.”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
“The human condition is such that pain and effort are not just symptoms which can be removed without changing life itself; they are the modes in which life itself, together with the necessity to which it is bound, makes itself felt. For mortals, the easy life of the gods would be a lifeless life.”
—Hannah Arendt (19061975)
“[T]he syndrome known as life is too diffuse to admit of palliation. For every symptom that is eased, another is made worse. The horse leechs daughter is a closed system. Her quantum of wantum cannot vary.”
—Samuel Beckett (19061989)
