Classes
Two major classes of the carbon monoxide dehydrogenase (CODH) enzymes have been identified. CODH containing a Mo--FAD active site have been found in aerobic bacteria, while a distinct class of Ni- CODH enzymes have been purified from anaerobic bacteria. Both classes of CODH catalyze the reversible conversion between carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbonmonoxide (CO). CODH exists in both monofuctional and bifunctional forms. In the latter case, CODH forms a bifunctional cluster with acetyl-CoA synthase, as has been well characterized in the anaerobic bacteria Moorella thermoacetica.

Famous quotes containing the word classes:
“My plan of instruction is extremely simple and limited. They learn, on week-days, such coarse works as may fit them for servants. I allow of no writing for the poor. My object is not to make fanatics, but to train up the lower classes in habits of industry and piety.”
—Hannah More (1745–1833)
“We deny your internationalism, because it is a luxury which only the upper classes can afford; the working people are hopelessly bound to their native shores.”
—Benito Mussolini (1883–1945)
“Solidity, caution, integrity, efficiency. Lack of imagination, hypocrisy. These qualities characterize the middle classes in every country, but in England they are national characteristics.”
—E.M. (Edward Morgan)
