Medical Uses
Atypical antipsychotics are typically used to treat schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. They are also frequently used for agitation associated with dementia, anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Some agents showing some benefits for these uses but are associated with significant rates of adverse events and are not approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for these purposes.
