Pilot
Aphrodite is piloted by Sayaka Yumi, Dr. Yumi's daughter, and many times the robot's attitudes reflect those of the pilot. Unlike Koji Kabuto (Mazinger's pilot) she does not control the mecha from a detachable vehicle, but from a built-in cockpit in the robot's head. This cockpit has the shape of a large glass dome. Within it, Sayaka is surrounded by a large amount of controls to pilot the mecha.
Sayaka is most commonly shown entering from a gate at the back of the robot's head, but in one chapter the glass dome opens to allow Koji, who was driving Aphrodite, to jump from her head to Mazinger's.

Famous quotes containing the word pilot:
“With two sons born eighteen months apart, I operated mainly on automatic pilot through the ceaseless activity of their early childhood. I remember opening the refrigerator late one night and finding a roll of aluminum foil next to a pair of small red tennies. Certain that I was responsible for the refrigerated shoes, I quickly closed the door and ran upstairs to make sure I had put the babies in their cribs instead of the linen closet.”
—Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)
“In the true mythology, Love is an immortal child, and Beauty leads him as a guide: nor can we express a deeper sense than when we say, Beauty is the pilot of the young soul.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“The river knows the way to the sea;
Without a pilot it runs and falls,
Blessing all lands with its charity.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
