Alexander the Great may be refers to the conjecture that the story of Dhul-Qarnayn (in Arabic ذو القرنين, literally "The Two-Horned One", also transliterated as Zul-Qarnain or Zulqarnain), mentioned in the Quran, may be reference to Alexander III of Macedon (356–323 BC), popularly known as Alexander the Great.

Dhul-Qarnayn is a figure who was well known in the lore of the ancient dwellers of the Arabian Peninsula and is mentioned in the Quran. There have been many different cultural depictions of Alexander the Great since antiquity. Muslims have generally endorsed the identification of Dhul-Qarnayn with Alexander the Great, at least until recent times.

Some contemporary Muslim scholars have suggested that the Qur'anic figure of Dhul-Qarnayn is Cyrus the Great. This theory was proposed by Sunni scholar Abul Kalam Azad and endorsed by Shi'a scholars Allameh Tabatabaei, in his Tafsir al-Mizan and Makarem Shirazi.

This Assumption of Zul-Qarnain for either Alexander the Great or Cyrus the Great is based on fact that they ruled over two nations: one in the east and one on the west. The word Qarn in Arabic is used for kingdoms whose people speak one language or have one religion.
