2004 US Open – Women's Singles
Justine Henin-Hardenne was the defending champion, but she was eliminated in the fourth round by Nadia Petrova.
Svetlana Kuznetsova won the title, defeating compatriot Elena Dementieva in the final. She became the third Russian woman, after Anastasia Myskina and Maria Sharapova (who won the French Open and Wimbledon, respectively, earlier that year), to win a Grand Slam. This was also the second-ever all-Russian Grand Slam final; the first being at the French Open earlier this year, where Myskina also defeated Dementieva.
