Reaction Formulas
Here are the chemical equations for the zinc–air cell:
- Anode: Zn + 4OH– → Zn(OH)42– + 2e– (E0 = -1.25 V)
- Fluid: Zn(OH)42– → ZnO + H2O + 2OH–
- Cathode: 1/2 O2 + H2O + 2e– → 2OH– (E0 = 0.34 V pH=11)
- Overall: 2Zn + O2 → 2ZnO (E0 = 1.59 V)

Famous quotes containing the words reaction and/or formulas:
“An actor must communicate his authors given messagecomedy, tragedy, serio- comedy; then comes his unique moment, as he is confronted by the looked-for, yet at times unexpected, reaction of the audience. This split second is his; he is in command of his medium; the effect vanishes into thin air; but that moment has a power all its own and, like power in any form, is stimulating and alluring.”
—Eleanor Robson Belmont (18781979)
“It is sentimentalism to assume that the teaching of life can always be fitted to the childs interests, just as it is empty formalism to force the child to parrot the formulas of adult society. Interests can be created and stimulated.”
—Jerome S. Bruner (20th century)
