Surrey County Intermediate League (Western)

The Surrey County Intermediate League (Western) is one of the three intermediate football leagues based in the English county of Surrey – the others being the Surrey South Eastern Combination and the Surrey Elite Intermediate League. The league can trace its roots back to 1891 when the East and West Surrey League was formed. Following a 're-construction' of this league the West Surrey League was formed in 1905. That, in turn, became the Surrey Intermediate League at the same time as the Surrey Senior League was formed in 1922.

It currently comprises clubs from West Surrey, North East Hampshire and South West Greater London. The league's top division is situated at the 12th level of the English football league system. Teams may be promoted from the Premier Division to the Surrey Elite Intermediate League. Division One teams may be relegated to and replaced by teams from the Guildford & Woking Alliance.

The league has two divisions for first teams as well as two reserve divisions. The 2011–12 Premier Division champions were Yateley Green with AFC Spelthorne Sports winning the Division One title. The Premier Reserve Division champions were Worplesdon Phoenix Reserves with AFC Spelthorne Sports Reserves winning Reserve Division One.

Famous quotes containing the words surrey, county, intermediate and/or league:

Then think I thus: sith such repair,
So long time war of valiant men,
Was all to win a lady fair,
Shall I not learn to suffer then,
And think my life well spent to be,
Serving a worthier wight than she?
Henry Howard, Earl Of Surrey (1517?–1547)

A horse, a buggy and several sets of harness, valued in all at about $250, were stolen last night from the stable of Howard Quinlan, near Kingsville. The county police are at work on the case, but so far no trace of either thieves or booty has been found.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

Complete courage and absolute cowardice are extremes that very few men fall into. The vast middle space contains all the intermediate kinds and degrees of courage; and these differ as much from one another as men’s faces or their humors do.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

Stereotypes fall in the face of humanity. You toodle along, thinking that all gay men wear leather after dark and should never, ever be permitted around a Little League field. And then one day your best friend from college, the one your kids adore, comes out to you.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
