Royal Family Order

The Royal Family Order is an order awarded by the sovereign of the United Kingdom to female members of the royal family (and occasionally to senior female members of the royal household). The order is a personal memento rather than a state decoration. The same practice is in place in the royal families of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Tonga.

Famous quotes containing the words royal family, royal, family and/or order:

You know, he wanted to shoot the Royal Family, abolish marriage, and put everybody who’d been to public school in a chain gang. Yeah, he was a idealist, your dad was.
David Mercer, British screenwriter, and Karel Reisz. Mrs. Dell (Irene Handl)

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
    This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house
    Against the envy of less happier lands;
This blessèd plot, this earth, this realm, this England.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

The son will run away from the family not at eighteen but at twelve, emancipated by his gluttonous precocity; he will fly not to seek heroic adventures, not to deliver a beautiful prisoner from a tower, not to immortalize a garret with sublime thoughts, but to found a business, to enrich himself and to compete with his infamous papa.
    Charles Baudelaire (1821–67)

Life does not need to mutilate itself in order to be pure.
    Simone Weil (1909–1943)
