Future Replacement
The FAMAS has several design flaws. Key among these are that its rifling cannot accurately stabilize modern rounds and its blowback operation is so strong it can tear apart standard 5.56mm NATO brass cases. This forced the French to use non-standard steel cased ammo. In 2011, the French CEMAT (Chef d'Etat Major de l'Armée de Terre / Chief of Staff of the Army) announced that the French Army would issue a RfP (Request for Proposals) for a rifle to replace the FAMAS in 2013. One weapon already submitted is the F90.
