List Of Sonic The Hedgehog Video Games
Sonic the Hedgehog is a series of video games published by Sega. Sonic Team, a subsidiary of Sega, has developed the majority of the games, although companies such as Dimps, Traveller's Tales, and Sega Studio USA have also developed some titles. The series started in 1991 with Sonic the Hedgehog for the Mega Drive. More games were released for Sega's own Mega Drive, Sega Game Gear, Sega Pico, Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast until Sega stopped manufacturing consoles. Subsequent games have appeared on a variety of home and handheld consoles such as the Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, Wii, and mobile phones. The Virtual Console, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade online services have seen re-releases of older titles.
The series focuses on the eponymous main character Sonic the Hedgehog, an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog. It also features a large cast of other characters such as Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the Chao creatures. Most games in the series are platform games, although spin-offs have encompassed other genres such as racing, fighting, action-adventure, role-playing, and sports. Several of the early games have been recognized as classics in video game history, while more recent 3D installments have seen more mixed reception. The series has collectively sold over 80 million units.
