List Of Alabama Crimson Tide Football Seasons

The Alabama Crimson Tide college football team competes as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, representing the University of Alabama in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Alabama has played their home games at Bryant–Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama since 1929.

The Crimson Tide claims fifteen national championships; recorded 27 total conference championships; holds NCAA records with 60 post-season bowl game appearances and 34 bowl game victories; and nine undefeated, untied seasons. Alabama leads the SEC West Division with eight appearances in the SEC Championship Game, and has a winning record against every SEC team except Missouri. The Associated Press (AP) ranks Alabama fifth in all-time Final AP Poll appearances. With 827 official wins in over 118 seasons of football, Alabama ranks sixth all-time in win-loss records in the NCAA. The program has had an additional 21 victories vacated (2005-2007) and 8 victories and 1 tie forfeited (1993).

Football was introduced to the university by W.G. Little in 1892. The first win in the history of the program came in its inaugural game, a 56–0 shutout over Birmingham High School on November 11, 1892. From 1892 to 1894, Alabama competed as a football independent, before joining the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) as a charter member in 1895. From 1895 to 1921, the Tide saw success in only having three losing seasons as a member of the SIAA. By 1922, Alabama left the SIAA to become a charter member of the Southern Conference. As a member of the Southern Conference, Alabama won conference championships in 1924, 1925, 1926 and 1930. Additionally, Alabama won their first three National Championships in the 1925, 1926 and 1930 seasons.

By 1933, Alabama again switched conferences, joining the SEC as a charter member. Alabama won the first SEC title in 1933 and its fourth and fifth national championship in the 1934 and 1941 seasons. After winning five national championships and nine conference championships through 1946, Alabama saw a decline between 1946 and 1957 in capturing only a single conference title. After only winning four games over a period of three seasons, Bear Bryant was hired as head coach in 1958. Under his guidance Alabama won thirteen SEC championships and national championships in the 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978 and 1979 seasons. Following the retirement of Bryant in 1982, Alabama has had eight head coaches and won five SEC championships as well as the programs twelfth national championship in the 1992 season, their thirteenth in the 2009 season, fourteenth in the 2011 season and fifteenth in the 2012 season. Through the 2012 season, Alabama has compiled an official overall record of 827 wins, 321 losses, 43 ties and has appeared in 60 bowl games, with the most recent coming in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, alabama, crimson, tide, football and/or seasons:

The advice of their elders to young men is very apt to be as unreal as a list of the hundred best books.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. (1841–1935)

We saw the machinery where murderers are now executed. Seven have been executed. The plan is better than the old one. It is quietly done. Only a few, at the most about thirty or forty, can witness [an execution]. It excites nobody outside of the list permitted to attend. I think the time for capital punishment has passed. I would abolish it. But while it lasts this is the best mode.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

    Oh! Susanna, do not cry for me;
I come from Alabama with my banjo on my knee.
    Stephen Collins Foster (1826–1864)

As the saffron tints and crimson flushes of morn herald the coming day, so the social and political advancement which woman has already gained bears the promise of the rising of the full-orbed sun of emancipation. The result will be not to make home less happy, but society more holy.
    Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (1825–1911)

The only mode of obtaining an answer to these questions of the senses is to forego all low curiosity, and, accepting the tide of being which floats us into the secret of nature, work and live, work and live, and all unawares the advancing soul has built and forged for itself a new condition, and the question and the answer are one.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

... in the minds of search committees there is the lingering question: Can she manage the football coach?
    Donna E. Shalala (b. 1941)

I say this because there is an uneasiness in things just now. Waiting for something to be over before you are forced to notice it. The pollarded trees scarcely bucking the wind and yet it’s keen, it make you fall over. Clabbered sky. Seasons that pass with a rush.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
