The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) (Pashto: مرکزي قبایلي سیمې; Urdu: قبائلی علاقہ جات) is a semi-autonomous tribal region in the northwest of present-day Pakistan, lying between Afghanistan to the west and north, and the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the east and Balochistan to the south. The FATA comprises seven agencies (tribal districts) and six frontier regions. The territory is almost exclusively inhabited by Pashtun tribes, who also live in the neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan and are Muslims by faith. The territory is governed through the Frontier Crimes Regulations.
