AnimeVillage was Bandai Entertainment's first attempt to enter the North American anime market. It first went online on August 13, 1998. It is an online store for various anime titles which they have the right to distribute. They began with the AnimeVillage.com label and released on subtitled-only VHS tapes. The company began to re-brand their products in 1999, and English-dubbed VHS tapes as well as dual language DVDs were subsequently released under the Bandai Entertainment label. The website was later re-launched by Bandai Entertainment on March 31, 2006. In 2008, they merged with http://dot-anime.us. However, dot-anime.us is closing, and so is, by extension, animevillage.com, whose url no longer even redirects to dot-anime.us.
