Khan Yunis (Arabic: خان يونس‎, also spelled Khan Younis or Khan Yunus; translation: Caravanserai Yunis) is a city in the southern Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Khan Yunis had a population of 142,637 in 2007. Although Khan Yunis lies only four kilometers east of the Mediterranean Sea, its climate is semi-arid with temperature of 30 degrees Celsius maximum in summer and 10 degrees Celsius maximum in winter, with an annual rainfall of approximately 260 mm.
